Kuni - “Home to Me”

Eleonora Danese, aka Kuni, is an up and coming singer-songwriter from Rome. Kuni is short for Kunimitsu, one of the main characters from Tekken, but we’re not here to talk about video games– we have gathered you all today so that we might discuss Kuni’s latest release, “Home to Me.”

Home to Me” is her first single in 2023, and claims that it is her most mature and ambitious track to date. And we’re not going to argue with that because this song is simply fantastic. It falls under the indie folk umbrella, with grand moments of indie pop as well. The listener will be immediately drawn to the folksy strums of an acoustic guitar before Kuni’s mesmerizing vocals begin, softly and gently. But at just over half a minute in, this song takes a turn toward the glorious sounds of ‘60s pop music, setting it apart from many others in the folk genre. One might even say that it sounds timeless– or, more specifically, an embodiment of all musical eras, including the distant overtones of– gasp– disco! There’s a little bit of everything in here– from the cinematic vocals of the modern masters, to more classic hints from artists such as Blondie and even momentary glimpses of the Bee Gees. We seriously hear something new every time we give “Home To Me” a spin, but please don’t let that fool you– this track, at its very soul, is a poppy folk number that will find its way into your music-loving heart.

About the track, Kuni adds: “‘Home To Me’ is a very gentle portrait of my feelings every time that a relationship – of any kind – doesn’t turn out very well for me. I know the same happens for each and any of them because I have learned to recognize a pattern over the years. Love, friendship, family: every time I put my hopes in a connection and that connection doesn’t work, I always find myself at home, in my room, on my bed thinking about what went wrong and what mistakes I may have done. I always end up thinking it somehow was my fault. So home, to me, becomes the place I am left alone with the ghosts I have collected and faced during the years, inevitably losing to some of them – today still.”
