Kindelan - “Wish I Wrote a Love Song”

From Yorkshire, singer-songwriter Kindelan has returned to us with “Wish I Wrote a Love Song,” the light and easy sister track to the previously released “Cigarettes.”

While “Cigarettes” left the listener amidst the chaotic aftermath of a failed relationship, “Wish I Wrote a Love Song” takes us back to a time when the passion was still alive. The finger-plucked notes from the guitar mark the tune with Kindelan’s signature sound, at first leaving the arrangement reasonably sparse. This shines a spotlight on the vocal performance, which, much like the previous cut, brings to mind the vehemence of artists such as Lianne La Haves, Fiona Apple, and Jeff Buckley.

Additional layers of vocal textures find their place in the production, allowing the song to delicately crescendo into the refrain. Anchoring the hook, a gentle and silky rhythm section is deployed, which remains for the track’s duration. Soft, reverberating notes from a shimmering electric guitar add a bit of ear candy, but the true star of this show is Kindelan’s voice, which is undeniably authentic and effortlessly believable.

About the double-single, Kindelan adds: “I decided to embody this and physically build a ‘perfect home’, with everything in its perfect place, in the artwork and music video. This neat, tidy and cared for space is intended to directly reflect the love it houses. This same space is then weathered and destroyed, with candles burnt down, flowers dried, wine spilt, and books ripped, to directly reflect the neglect and disregard for this same love at the end of the story.”
