JW Francis - “Turtleneck Weather”

New York City-based JW Francis has just released the easy-going indie rock track, “Turtleneck Weather.”

This song is founded around catchy acoustic guitar that is played with an energetic, rhythmic groove. The warm, open chords are uplifting, vibrant, and positive, helping make this track one hell of a compelling listen. These vibes are wonderfully reinforced by the electric guitar licks that briskly ascend and decend throughout. The fluid, melodic runs evoke a mood of elation and anticipation. Pushing the track forward is a steady, mid-tempo drum beat that has a lush feeling of being laid back and loose. Underneath, the bass pulses steadily, helping to glue all the musical elements together. Musically, the track has a similar eclectic vibe of early Beck.

The vocal of JW Francis, for me, is reminiscent of 1960s Bob Dylan, with a more radio-friendly vibe, compared to old Zimbo. The delivery has similarities in the timbre, phrasing, and in its sense of authenticity. Contrasting this delivery are some pretty sweet backing layers that airily support and lift the performance with joyous harmonies. Speaking about the track JW Francis adds: “I wrote this song about feeling like I had to go and walk the Appalachian Trail, which I did a couple years back.”

Turtleneck Weather” feels like a breath of fresh air and it perfectly encapsulates the feeling of going for a walk through nature. This song is definitely worth the press of the play button.
