Joe Nolan - “Too Much Time To Kill”
Edmonton, Alberta-based singer-songwriter Joe Nolan has just released “Too Much Time To Kill,” the latest single from his forthcoming LP, Luv in the New World.
This rich and robust offering of authentic Americana opens to the confident strums of acoustic guitar, with a bit of harmonica emerging as some mellifluous foreshadowing. For the song’s outset, it maintains a raw and intimate method of delivery, which lets the spotlight shine brightly upon Nolan’s honest and vulnerable vocal performance.
The soft chords of a piano rise in the distance, providing some thickness to the arrangement as the notes from a lead guitar tease the listener. The rest of the band arrives for the refrain, imbuing “Too Much Time To Kill” with the distinct, vintage flavor of analogue, most notably within the track’s rhythm section. To top it all off, a vocal harmony from Sara Watkins emerges on the hook, effectively nailing our niche for the genre.
In addition to Watkins’ vocal and fiddle duties, Nolan has also enlisted the help of Jay Bellerose on drums, Sebastian Steinberg on bass, and Tyler Chester on keys, with the task of production resting in the hands of Grammy winner Tyler Chester. It should come as no surprise that “Too Much Time To Kill” sounds as great as it does. Of course, if you don’t believe us, you can always press that play button.
