Jackson Harden - “Strangers”

Charlotte, North Carolina-based singer-songwriter Jackson Harden returns to the blog with the vulnerably stripped-back “Strangers,” a tune from his debut EP, Dakota Blue Moon, now available everywhere.

We last heard from Harden when he gave us the EP’s title track, “Dakota Blue Moon,” which was more than enough to hold us over while we awaited more of his music. But when we saw “Strangers” in our submission box, we couldn’t wait to get it into our ears.

Pressing the play button delivers the warm tones of a strummed acoustic guitar, instantly enchanting fans of folk music. The sound is raw and intimate and it is easy to see that great care went into the recording process, likely utilizing multiple microphones to bring such great magical depth to the sparse arrangement.

Harden’s vocal enters the tune like an old friend, soft and emotive, tender and authentic. For the majority of “Strangers,” it’s just you, the guitar, and Harden’s voice, creating a musical vehicle in which to escape the hustle and bustle of the work week. A harmonica joins after the first refrain, providing a welcomed melodic companion.

In just over three minutes, Jackson Harden provides a delicate invitation toward introspection and a place to catch your breath after the daily grind. And as the world enters the holiday season, you’re going to need as many songs like “Strangers” as you can find. Luckily, Harden has just released six of them:
