Jack Goldstein - “MUD MICE”

Jack Goldstein from Margate, United Kingdom, has just released the glorious country-psych track, “MUD MICE.”

MUD MICE” is a genre surfing track inspired by the “half-dust, half-flesh creatures from Jewish folklore.” Holding the vibe of mixing The Polyphonic Spree with Beck and taking them on an odyssey where you hang out with Gram Parsons who has somehow found himself wired on mushrooms, the track is an unusual, beautiful experience to listen to.

Right from the offset we are immersed in woozy, washed-out pedal steel, dusty drums and sepia toned acoustic guitar. But it is not long before we are propelled into a technicolour landscape of colossal, stomping drums and feverish, twisted violins. Chaotic but also exquisitely harmonious, Jack Goldstein throws lots of ear candy on top on this surreal carnival ride.

Vocally, we are treated to a wide eyed, spritely performance accompanied by full bodied, soaring, choirlike harmonies. Theatrical, and yes unabashedly sentimental, the vocals aren’t about melodies but instead about ‘feeling.’ The type of ‘feelings’ that are ecstatically in disarray… and that is meant in the best possible way.

MUD MICE” is one of those tracks you listen to not to be impressed, though it is jaw droppingly inspired creatively, you listen instead to be overwhelmed. Transportive yet accessible, the track is taken from the forthcoming LP HELLFIRE BUMPER STICKER COWPUNCHING JEWBOY slated for release June 20th via Fabulous Things. The album is also being released on cassette so make sure you don’t miss out on your copy!
