It’s For Us - “Hit the Ground”

Stockholm-based quartet It’s For Us have just released the moody, retro-tinged “Hit the Ground.” The track explores pain and resilience with raw textures reminiscent of post-punk and gothic rock bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees.

Hit the Ground” is built around the slow groove of drums that effortlessly propel the composition forward. Bass pulses relentlessly underneath, giving a dark but rich texture, but it is the shifting electric guitar layers that really set this track alight. The raw, howling, and gritty tones create a sense of drama and tension as they swirl into an orchestrated cacophony of noise. These layers are highly atmospheric and beautifully dissonant in all the right places. Another pleasant touch are the retro-tinged synths that pad the song over key areas, adding to the intensity of the music.

The male and female vocals on “Hit the Ground” add to the retro vibes with their strikingly assertive, theatrical, haunting, and powerful deliveries. They provide a palpable sense of emotion, which helps to perfectly capture the lyrical themes of the song.

The band explain the meaning behind the song: “The lyrics of ‘Hit the Ground’ touch on the double-edged sword that is coming out the other side of pain, loss and trauma. How it can be a strength, a rebirth of sorts, like a broken bone that grows back together stronger than before – but how it can also become a cop-out used for self-protection, distancing yourself by projecting that you are untouchable, having already hit the ground.”

Hit the Ground” is a compelling listen, brimmed full of immersive and raw textures. The track is the second single from It’s For Us’ upcoming third album, Out Of Time.
