Alexander Grandjean - “Honey in the Waves”

Danish artist Alexander Grandjean finds beauty in the darkness with his reflective, new indie folk song, “Honey in the Waves.”

Honey in the Waves” opens to the reassuring sound of the sea from which weaving fingerpicked acoustic guitar establishes a soothing and chilled groove. A slow drum beat propels the track forward, whilst bass pulses comfortingly underneath. The arrangement is beautifully crafted, with only piano, shaker, and carefully selected meditative layers used to enhance the calming vibes over key areas.

The vocals of Grandjean are the true highlight of the track, especially over the choruses. The breathy tones are wonderfully immersive, thanks to the harmonising layers, which are delicately applied throughout. The rich performance has a pleasing sense of heart and soul, as they softly deliver the poignant lyrics.

Lyrically, “Honey in the Waves” explores the turbulent experience of his partner’s miscarriage and the following surgery. The song finds beauty in these dark moments by touching on the themes of resilience and hope, something we could all use a little more of these days.

Honey in the Waves” is a beautiful song that is infused with soothing musical layers and gentle harmonious vocals. The song is taken from his upcoming album, slated for release in November.

About his project, Grandjean adds: “I think distractions and anxiety have gotten a little bit out of control. I’m here to slow things down and remind myself and everybody else that we need to find ways to live more harmoniously and in sync with nature.”
