Jack Shields & The Mojave Rush - “In The Alpine”

Los Angeles–based Jack Shields & The Mojave Rush blend introspection with sweeping cinematic sounds in the garage rock track, “In the Alpine.”

In the Alpine” evokes the raw energy of the early 1990s garage and grunge rock scenes. This is not the art-rock theatrics of Jane’s Addiction, nor the experimental Sonic Youth. Instead, it sits closer to the universally relatable Nirvana when they released Nevermind. Classic songs built around the irresistible tension of quiet, meditative verses that break into growling, liberating choruses.

Yet, this is not pastiche. Unlike Nirvana’s stripped-down, high-energy delivery, “In the Alpine” moves at a more measured pace with each note allowed to breathe. The bass is melodic, the drums precise but restrained. Rather than urgency, there is space for reflection. The electric guitar is still emotive, but the focus shifts from raw distortion to texture and atmosphere. Where Nirvana relied on watery guitar tones, Jack Shields & The Mojave Rush replace them with vivid glissandos of pedal steel. The song is grounded and gloriously cinematic feel. This is music that pays homage and retains the emotional resonance of the 1990s, but it’s slower, more contemplative, and rich in nuance.

Intimate, smoky and unpolished, the timbre rich vocal performance is all about emotion. It builds tension masterfully and brings a quiet, grounded intensity to the choruses.

On “In the Alpine,”Jack Shields & The Mojave Rush briefly elaborate that it “is a restless alt-rock anthem about isolation, longing, and cabin fever as a psychological state. Cold imagery, intrusive thoughts, and a massive chorus push against distorted guitars and pedal steel, turning confinement into catharsis.”

Brooding, soulful and evocative, “In the Alpine” is the first single to be taken from the forthcoming new album Avalanche Hour. Connect with Jack Shields & The Mojave Rush: Bandcamp | Spotify | Instagram
