I Shiver - “RIPTIDE”

Berlin-based singer-songwriter Konni Shivers, aka I Shiver, returns to the blog with “RIPTIDE,” a sad yet cozy slice of dreamy indie folk.

We’ve long been fans of I Shiver’s craft, as he sails his musical vessel in the same seas as Hazlett, Novo Amor, and Bon Iver. In “RIPTIDE,” this raw character is evident in the lo-fi charm of the guitar and the soft, endearing vehemence of Konni’s vocal performance, which often elevates into an alluring, angelic falsetto.

The first half of the song resides within in the realm of intimate vulnerability, primarily utilizing layers of guitar and ethereal vocals to reach directly into your emotions. The second half reveals a sonic expansion, incorporating the steady pulse of a kick drum, dynamic twists and turns, and a conclusion that reveals a subtle snare and deeper notes from a bass.

I Shiver adds that “RIPTIDE” “is about trying to take back what life has taken during this last year… It’s about dealing with anxieties, a lost balance and missing ease. But even though everything has changed and a lot of darkness weighs on me… this song is also about trying to finding new ways to build stability, a certain trust in life and a peaceful inner home.”

For those of you trying to find your footing in this dark and lonely world, we encourage you to make “RIPTIDE” a part of the soundtrack that carries you home.
