Zoe Konez - “I Know It Happened But I Can't Explain”

UK-based Zoe Konez is back on the blog with a track that explores some of our favorite subject matter– the demise of a relationship. Her latest single, “I Know It Happened But I Can't Explain,” is bound to resonate with anyone who’s taken the time to sift through the wreckage of a former love affair.

Konez wastes no time here, getting to the bones of the song as soon as you press play, running down an introspective laundry list of remnants left over from a broken connection. The mood is soft and delicate, as we’ve all come to know her work to be, with a gently played acoustic guitar setting the melancholic, yet insightful tone of the recording.

Within this treasure-trove of sound, be sure to feast your ears upon the carefully placed vocal harmonies– easily one of our favorite elements in any indie folk tune. As we’re pulled through this glorious and tragic story, we’re left to wonder why the relationship ultimately met its end, as it is also quite clear that the narrator has found herself wondering the same.

Around the one-minute mark, the production expands with some thick bass notes that line its underbelly. And as more elements are subtly added to the arrangement, it is Konez’s remarkable storytelling and vocal delivery that will keep us circling back to the play button on this one. There is simply nothing like these stripped-back, heartfelt numbers that make us grateful we ever started this blog in the first place.
