Humbird – “Moonlight and Tobacco”
From Minneapolis, Minnesota, Humbird returns to us with “Moonlight and Tobacco,” the latest track from the new LP Morning When It Comes.
Humbird is no stranger to our blog, and we usually end up featuring everything their camp sends over to us. With “Moonlight and Tobacco,” listeners catch a cozy vintage aesthetic with an acoustic guitar-led full-band arrangement. These raw, digital-free recordings are why our blog exists in the first place, as there is simply no denying that it was carefully crafted by human hands.
This warmth does not begin and end with the instruments, as “Moonlight and Tobacco” features lyrics that describe a “you and me against the world” kind of vibe, with two people finding comfort in one another amid all the chaos around them. The world may be filled with storms, bad news, and plenty of reasons to worry, but there is comfort in facing it all together.
Then, of course, we have Siri Undlin’s superb vocal performance bringing everything together, with a voice that feels as though the universe fully intended for her to become a folk singer. For most of the song, a sweet harmony runs alongside the lead, adding emphasis to the idea of two people moving through life together, even when the world around them feels anything but peaceful.
This fresh breath of indie folk goodness is available wherever you get your music, as is the rest of the album, which we could not recommend more highly.
