His His - “Ford Econoline”

Toronto-based Aidan Belo, aka His His, returns to the blog with a song he wrote while on tour: “Ford Econoline.”

This track brings with it all of the charming qualities that first made us fall in love with the sound of His His. This includes the delicious, lo-fi warbles of guitar that enter your ears as soon as you press the play button. There is something very warm and comforting in the way that these chords wrap around your spirit as they carry you through a vibrant and authentic soundscape.

Bass and drums soon arrive, just as lo-fi and retro-tinged as the guitar, making for one hell of a tasty arrangement. The rhythm is somewhat upbeat, yet still gentle enough for listeners to lose themselves within the vibe. Belo’s signature vocal emerges, wonderfully harmonized as he delivers lines of lyrics that have been pieced together from the journal he keeps while on tour.

We made some comparisons to Elliott Smith’s craft in our last review of His His, but with “Ford Econoline,” we are picking up some remnants of the more gentle tracks from Sebadoh, as well as Lou Barlow’s intimate, solo recordings. For the full-flavored experience, we suggest finding three minutes where you can melt into your headphones without interruption.
