Hayfitz - “What’s Wrong”

USA-based Hayfitz has just released the beautifully raw and dynamic “What’s Wrong,” a gorgeously stripped-back tune that carries one hell of an emotional punch.

The song opens with clean electric guitar that plays with an urgency and melancholy. Lower guitar notes are added on top, bringing weight in certain places where key lyrics are delivered. This not only gives the track a sense of assertion, but also heightens the emotional intensity. The dynamics of the track build in intensity with the addition of more layers of guitar. Electric guitar drives home the urgent rhythm, whilst acoustic guitar fingerpicks a slow arpeggio that melodically contrasts with the more serious tones being built.

The vocal performance exudes a strong sense of emotion and authenticity. It gracefully rises from the verses’ deeper, more emotive tones to falsetto highs. The performance exudes a clear sense of rawness. As the song progresses towards the crescendo, layers of background vocals provide a lovely airy accompaniment that give the lead vocal a building sense of crescendo.

Just as “What’s Wrong” reaches the intense climax of emotion, it wonderfully dies into an ambient soundscape. The guitar jangles airily as hints of violin add to the dream-like atmosphere.

Recorded during three weeks of isolation in a cabin, “What’s Wrong” is the latest release to be taken from the album, Everything Else, which is due out October 6th.
