Goodspace - “Easier Said Than Done”

Goodspace, from New Zealand, has just released the gorgeously understated indie pop rock track, “Easier Said Than Done.”

Easier Said Than Done” is a tender, delicate ballad that wouldn’t feel out of place if it was part of Guy Chambers or even Elton John’s back catalogue. It reminds us that emotional honesty is still more powerful than any hook laden chart filler.

Driven by a genuinely brilliant, mellow piano based arrangement that most songwriters would kill to have written, the track never drifts into power ballad or corny territory. Even though it easily could have over the rousing “na na nas.” Instead, it holds its nerve, staying tastefully stays in the “timeless” anthemic category.

Goodspace delivers a masterclass of using sound to build warmth and intimacy. Soothing strings, subtle acoustic touches, glowing organ tones and sophisticated percussion all work in harmony to create a sense of depth and texture. The kind that is only present on the true classics.

The vocal is perfectly executed and is nothing short of remarkable, especially as it reaches into breathy high notes. It is imbued with a sense of warmth and vulnerability that perfectly captures the songs emotional essence. The quiet pain of a relationship ending, elegantly capturing bittersweet resignation.

With poignant lyrics and a melancholically romantic sound, “Easier Said Than Done” is a real testament to Goodspace’s skills as a songwriter and performer. The track is out now via AAA Records accompanied by a one take music video and interactive installation at Lim Chhour Foodcourt on the Karangahape Road in Auckland.
