GLOB- “Gaffer Tape”

In the winter of 2020, GLOB was born from a shared love of music and Adventure Time. The Australian foursome have since harnessed the energy of T. Rex, Fleetwood Mac, and The Beach Boys in order to bring us the indie rock gem, “Gaffer Tape.”

This song begins quite abruptly, nearly exploding into an upbeat rhythm that consists of drums and an ear worm guitar riff. Seconds later, the melody falls into place and the bass brings in some bottom end, allowing the song to take its true form– quite a glorious offering of the indie rock variety.

All of this proves that “Gaffer Tape” can certainly hold its own musically, but the vocals are what cinched the deal for us. Though they do not cause us to draw any immediate comparisons, we can confirm that they are delivered in one of those modern flavors that still behold all the comforts of nostalgia– just the way we like them.

In lieu of the typical guitar solo, “Gaffer Tape” gives us a spotlight on the synth, which is quite refreshing among a seemingly endless sea of shredding. From here, we get a bit of a dynamic break that calls back to the riffing that initially caught our ear, then, once again, it erupts into the finale.

Gaffer Tape” is a song that begs to be heard live, as its production lends all of the appropriate ingredients one needs in order to imagine it bursting from the stage. With the promise of a full album later this year, GLOB is definitely one to watch– and speaking of watching, keep your eyes peeled for the soon-to-be-released accompanying music video.
