GIMMY - “Tell Me I’m Your Girl”

NSW, Australia-based GIMMY have just released the smoldering grit of their future hit single, “Tell Me I’m Your Girl.”

The track begins by unleashing the dirt of a lo-fi electric guitar, hammering out the chords that become the foundation to the blistering arrangement. The song is instantly reminiscent of early Big Thief and we knew that we would love it as soon as it began to enter our ears.

The rest of the band soon arrives, bringing the weight of a tight rhythm section and another layer of guitar, including some splashes of a raw lead. But where the track really wins our attention is with lead vocalist Gemma Owens’ remarkably raw performance. It is everything that we’d hoped it would be, and fans of both Adrianne Lenker and Courtney Barnett will be happy that they pressed the play button.

In its three minute and forty-one second runtime, music lovers will be taken on a garage-rocking voyage through a sarcastic version of a love song. The sound is void of modern production trickery and is simply an unabashed romp through a gritty, rock ’n’ roll soundscape. If you only hear one song today today, you cannot go wrong with “Tell Me I’m Your Girl.”

About the track, GIMMY explains: “I love romance, all the chaos and honesty of it, not just the shining stuff but all the grit as well. This song is a tacky picture of what I think a lot of people desire — to be treated like royalty and be paid for — but when you’re young, you can only really afford cheap cheese and wine from Woolworths haha.”
