ghost prom - “5am”

New York-based husband and wife duo Cameron and Eden Crosby, aka ghost prom, have completely dazzled us with the sounds of their latest single, “5am.”

They waste absolutely no time at all with getting this one in your face, as “5am” begins with a layered stack of fuzzy guitar that would rival The Jesus and Mary Chain. At the same time, there is decadent vintage flavor about the production that will make you yearn for the mid-to-late ‘90s, before the world was so saturated in digital production.

Cameron takes the helm at delivering the vocals during the verses, unraveling a tale of internal conflict and eventual surrender. His vocal appears to be perfectly doubled here, which provides a distinct richness to the performance without the need for anything but transparent effects. Eden joins on the hook, her voice delicately harmonizing with Cameron’s and one cannot help but imagine “5am” being performed live.

Some definite highlights here include the vibey slide guitar that enters the track after the first chorus, as well as the additional vocal harmonies on the back half of the second verse. At just over two and a half minutes in length, you cannot afford to not invite “5am” into your life, so drop whatever you’re doing, strap on some headphones, and press play.
