Jason Kent - “Fake Those Blues”

Montreal-based Jason Kent has just released the new single, “Fake Those Blues,” and it is the kind of track that will reach directly into your heart and mash that nostalgia button. It begins with some vibey piano, but moments later, the rhythm section joins and is bound to conjure an immediate “Instant Karma” kind of sensation. It was at this point that we did not care what the rest of the song had in store for us– it was going on the blog.

But folks, once these brilliant vocals begin, you will appreciate our itchy trigger finger because Kent is apparently some sort of musical genius. He’s managed to encompass the vintage feel of an entire generation of music inside of “Fake Those Blues,” and still he’s managed to make it sound completely modern at the same time. And if your mind has not yet been entirely blown, Kent claims that the song pretty much wrote itself in a matter of two days.

We thought that surely “Fake Those Blues” had to be some sort of fluke, so we took a dive into Kent’s past recordings and, ladies and gentlemen, what we found there was a treasure trove of good vibes. We recommend that you spend the afternoon with his music, beginning with the sweet sounds of “Age of Emotion,” in which you will find some fantastic sounds evocative of Wilco.
