Jamie Turner - “Come Back And See Me”

For those of you who hunger for the sweet sounds of the 1970s, look no further than “Come Back And See Me,” the latest release from West Australia’s Jamie Turner.

This song is truly unbelievable and it captured our interest immediately after pressing play. It begins with a little lick from an acoustic guitar, then dives right into the creamy rhythm section, glued together with a meaty compression. And imagine, if you will, how it might have sounded if Sufjan Stevens or Elliott Smith had been in an indie rock band back in ’73– that will get you in the ballpark of this delicious sound.

Once you’ve cozied your ears into this luscious and robust production, please take a moment to marvel at the fact that Turner recorded all of “Come Back And See Me at home. And it’s no surprise that he used all analog equipment to do so, because this is simply like nothing we’ve heard come out of a digital studio. As you’re listening, be sure to appreciate the string arrangement provided by Detroit’s Via Mardot– a stellar final touch to what is now one of our favorite finds of 2023.

Lyrically, this deeply resonates with us because it’s as though Turner is literally pulling the thoughts right out of our heads: “My body needs more vegetables… Wanna spend time with my dog…” And sure, we’re only halfway through the work week, but this song will straight-up teleport you to an early 1970s vacation, where we’re convinced Turner lives with “Come Back And See Me.” Yeah, he’d better come back and see us as well, with all of his future releases.
