FAITH PLATES - “Fever”
Berlin-based artist FAITH PLATES returns to the blog with spectral indie folk track “Fever,” the latest track from her forthcoming LP.
The new single “Fever” demonstrates that simplicity is key when writing great songs. Acoustic guitars weave and tender vocals wash over you with dreamy, homespun, rootsy warmth. It’s a composition that feels almost untethered from time, with no clear signposts to suggest whether this is music from centuries past… or something written yesterday. Intimate and unguarded, it’s soaked in soothing melodies.
Built on a mesmerising Travis fingerpicking pattern, “Fever” carries a floating, liquid quality that gently pulls you inward to another world. The plucked notes shimmer and resonate hypnotically fostering a fluid sense of motion. FAITH PLATES paints a dreamy, shapeshifting landscape that feels like a cross between Laura Marling, Adrianne Lenker and Aldous Harding… and maybe a pinch of Linda Perhacs.
The alluring, arresting voice of FAITH PLATES rests at the centre. Never less than captivating, the tones unfurling like a slow dream, glinting and pooling with a magical and tender sense of clarity. There’s a natural ease to the delivery, drawing you further into its orbit. It is the sound you would imagine Odysseus hearing whilst bound to his mast.
The performance also carries a feeling of something almost private… as if you’ve stumbled upon a moment not meant for outside ears. It’s this sense of unguarded intimacy that gives “Fever” a sense that it is speaking directly to your soul.
Lyrically, “Fever” is a song built on fragments of memory and half-formed thoughts, colliding and sketching out a world that feels both deeply personal and just out of reach. Melancholy and restlessness set against the fragile comfort of nostalgia. The words are lyrically mature and unfold with the instinct of a wandering spirit.
On “Fever,” FAITH PLATES adds: “This song is the only one on my upcoming album that has been kept as a guitar-only track. While all songs were written on the guitar, this one felt perfect in its original form, so we kept it the same when producing it. It feels very special to me because of that.”
Otherworldly and meditative, the quality and astute beauty of the music FAITH PLATES is releasing is breathtakingly high. “Fever” is the third single to be taken from FAITH PLATES’s forthcoming album slated for release this May. Connect with the artist here: Spotify | Instagram
