Fairhazel - “Weary Eyes”

London-based singer-songwriter Hugh Macdonald, aka Fairhazel, returns to the blog with the sounds of “Weary Eyes,” the perfect soundtrack to your introspective journey though life, no matter which life you are living.

Weary Eyes” begins amidst some wide, reverberating guitar, with layers of delightfully ethereal vocals to guide you along your late-night drive to wherever. The vibe is warmly reminiscent of Young the Giant, and it is very clear that Fairhazel has put a great deal of care into the multi-tracked vocal performance.

The arrival of the rhythm section provides a wondrous elevation to your listening experience, with a premium, upbeat tick that will surely have you tapping your steering wheel as you drive into the night. This rhythmic pulse is brought in and out of the soundscape to provide “Weary Eyes” with an ample amount of dynamic variation, ebbing and flowing as it breathes musical life into your lungs.

The star of the show is, of course, Fairhazel’s vocal work, and we truly cannot get enough of the hook, breaking into his falsetto as he informs us: “it’s the season of change.” And on the final third, the entire production elevates once more to reveal an epic, indie-rock-imbued arrangement, smashing through the ceiling with Fairhazel’s upper register and layers of gloriously resounding guitars.

If you like what you hear, and we know that you will, be sure to look for Fairhazel’s new album later this year.
