Ezra Vancil - “Big Time”

Dallas-based Ezra Vancil has just offered up a delightful taste of Americana with his new track, “Big Time.” We can be quite finicky when it comes to this genre, as many artists lean a bit too close to country for our tastes, but Vancil maintains a classic and gritty texture that brings a warm sense of nostalgia to the listener.

Though “Big Time” is, indeed, Americana, it has a delightful Motown thickness about it that is bound to attract an eclectic batch of listeners. As soon as we pressed play, the soft groove immediately took us back to a time when music could exist without autotune– and once you hear Vancil’s authentically raw and gritty vocal, you will know instantly that this man was born for melodic storytelling.

The music beneath the track consists of only the necessary ingredients– drums, bass, and guitar– and is bound to conjure images of John Mellencamp and Tom Petty, while also delivering the vibes of modern artists, such as The Decemberists and Fleet Foxes. On the refrain, Vancil’s vocal widens splendidly and the production is joined by a warm and lush string arrangement.

Big Time” is perfect for music lovers who need to take a four minute break from the daily grind. Its sweet sounds will promote a great deal of introspection, leading listeners to ponder on the decisions they’ve made that have led them to where they are today. It’ll bring some peace, it’ll bring some warmth, and it goes great with an afternoon drive.
