Ezra Glatt – “Something’s Wrong”

From Toronto, Ezra Glatt has returned to the blog with the new indie folk single “Something’s Wrong.”

Pressing play on “Something’s Wrong” invites you directly into Glatt’s chill and introspective world, opening with a vocal performance that has been wonderfully layered. His voice rests atop a foundation of quietly strummed acoustic guitar, which allows more than enough space for the emotional weight of the subject matter.

If you put aside all of the sonic parallels we could draw to the work of Elliott Smith, Nick Drake, or Sufjan Stevens, what remains is Glatt’s grasp on today’s mental health climate. With lyrics that evoke anxiety, insomnia, and emotional disconnect, “Something’s Wrong” may as well be pages ripped from society’s private journal.

The second half of the track welcomes the long, melancholic notes from a cello, but beyond this, the arrangement primarily consists of vocals and acoustic guitar. And while these ingredients alone are not always enough to carry a song, Glatt uses restraint to his advantage, allowing each note to land with purpose and authenticity.

Something’s Wrong” is indie folk that feels deeply personal yet relatable to all, and impossible to ignore. You should press play and spend the next few minutes agreeing with me. Connect with Ezra Glatt: Spotify | Instagram
