Emma Frances - “Days”

San Diego-based singer-songwriter Emma Frances has just released the indie-pop goodness of “Days,” the first single from her forthcoming EP, Caverns of Youth.

Emma gets things started with the charmingly peppy sounds of an acoustic guitar, backed only by a hi-hat that steadily plots the song’s course. Her vocal shortly begins, imbuing the production with an endearing, old-school vibe that was made famous by the likes of Carole King and Carly Simon. And once you’ve heard Emma’s voice, she’s already won you over as a fan.

Some deep bass emerges as she slips into her falsetto, resulting in a sound that is sure to cure any discontent you might have in regard to the daily grind. We suggest listening to “Days” both to and from work in order to forget that you were ever even there. Ultra-vibey electric guitar drops into the arrangement, clearing a path in the production for the drum kit to deliver the goods– a rhythm that will have you tapping your feet in no time.

And just when you think that there’s no possible way to enrich this sound any further, along comes a Rhodes and vocal harmony to prove you wrong. “Days” is not our usual brand of indie pop, as we tend to steer clear of upbeat songs that make you feel good about life, but once you’ve had this jaunt in your ears, you will know exactly why we couldn’t resist featuring it on the blog.

From its sparkling vocal harmonies to its retro-tinged demeanor, “Days” is the perfect way for all of us to catch a glimpse into Emma’s forthcoming EP, Caverns of Youth, due for release in April.
