Elsdeer - “Golden Hours”

With her latest track, “Golden Hours,” Elsdeer arrives on the blog with her brand of folk music. The song is about “the feeling of absolute freedom and bliss in the most beautiful moments we have in life and how we carry these moments in us.”

The track begins with a bit of room noise, offering that DIY vibe that we love to hear in the many delicate offerings from this genre. An acoustic guitar shortly follows, and is softly finger-plucked as it sets the mood, accompanied by the gentle keys of a piano. After a couple of bars, the vocals arrive, leading the listener away from the madness of the day-to-day and into a sweet, blissful melody.

Like all of our favorite indie folk tracks, “Golden Hours” is not home to any fancy production tricks or autotune– it simply relies on the songwriting to leave a lasting impression. And once the hook arrives, the elevation and string accompaniment do exactly that. Elsdeer’s voice crescendos with emotion, creating quite the lovely soundscape in which listeners can readily lose themselves.

While the vocals are our favorite part, the string arrangement takes a very close second, adding a dimension to the music that we do not hear as often as one might expect. Oftentimes, artists will fill this space with a synth pad– and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that, but hearing the rawness of the cello and double bass really add to the overall richness of the production.

If you’re like us and constantly chasing songs that inspire introspection, look no further than “Golden Hours.”
