Elizabeth Hume - “fact or fiction”

USA-based singer-songwriter Elizabeth Hume has captured our full attention with her latest release, “fact or fiction.”

The track glides in on an ethereal magic carpet before some barebones percussion brings it to life. A duet of guitars, acoustic and electric, weave their wondrous souls together to add some width, while the deep notes of a bass provide “fact or fiction” with some vintage weight. The sound immediately nails our niche, imbued with that melancholic vibe to which we are so often drawn.

However, it was Hume’s magnificent vocal performance that sealed the deal for us. Her voice is breathy and emotive, warmly reminiscent of both Keni Titus and Adrianne Lenker and we find ourselves more and more enchanted with each line of lyrics. Additional layers of guitar break the surface, reverberating a distant, atmospheric melody into the introspective soundscape– “fact or fiction” is auditory perfection, thanks, in part, to the production work of Nolan Garrett.

The song is built upon a continuous and gradual crescendo, beholding delightful layers of vocals and an ever-evolving arrangement that seems to know no bounds. We find a new sound to love each time that we spin it and if “fact or fiction” doesn’t wind up on multiple editorial playlists, it’s nothing but proof that the system is rigged.

This is our first time hearing music from Hume, but if “fact or fiction” is any indication of what the rest of her forthcoming EP has in store, we certainly hope that she sends us the rest of it. Until then, connect with her across the internet: Instagram | TikTok | Spotify
