Del Coda - “It’s Always Love”
Del Coda from the USA have just released their debut, snappy, toe-tapping classic pop-rock track, “It’s Always Love.”
Rollicking, sun kissed, youthful, “It’s Always Love” is a vintage toned track that is probably best described as bouncing like Merseybeat crossed with Little Richard. Written in under 24 hours and full of spontaneity, you have guessed it, “It’s Always Love” is one of those slyly sophisticated teenage radio hits. Brimming full of early 1960s pop magic it simply has it all. Whether it’s the chiming guitars, jangly solo, crisp handclaps or the barbershop “ahhh” harmonies, or the dusty 7” Ringo-esque backbeat and plumpy bass.
That’s all before we get to the carefree, melodic and raspy vocal. The performance is not McCartney or Lennon but closer to Richard or even classic Van Morrison. We are even treated to the falsetto Little Richard “whooo!” embellishments that are peppered across many of the 1960s tracks from “Long Tall Sally” or The Kinks’ “All Day and All of the Night.”
“It’s Always Love” is a joyful, melodic slice of rock ’n’ roll. Every single element is packed with spirit, punch and a heathy dose of tongue in cheek. It is a composition that feels as if it has always existed and I would not have been surprised if someone said that it was released in 1965. This is a dazzling debut from Del Coda. You definitely need to hit play on this number.
