Dark Dazey - “Gong Song”

From Los Angeles, California, please give a warm welcome to the genre-bending psychedelia of Dark Dazey and their brand new release, “Gong Song.”

Before pressing play, we ask that you take a few deep breaths and remain fully aware of your surroundings, because this behemoth concoction is going to pull you away from your version of reality. “Gong Song” begins with a cocktail of late ‘60s elegance, boasting a smooth and gentle rhythm that will immediately enchant you, filling your ears with the most delightful of guitar sounds.

It is not long before a swift drum fill elevates the tempo by a few notches, leading to a verse comprised of a call-and-response falsetto and spoken-word combination of vocals. “Gong Song” gives you just enough of each section to keep you satisfied, but is not afraid to abandon you as it switches directions. If our subconscious had a soundtrack, this would be the first song we’d hear.

And when the heavenly tones of distorted guitars start to fill your ears, you’ll know that you’ve come to the right place and pressed play on the right song. “Gong Song” will take you on a journey from Classics IV, to Pink Floyd, to Black Sabbath and every stop in between. Around midpoint, there is a delicious breakdown of bass and drums that is easily worth the price of admission.

Gong Song” is bursting with so many twists and turns that there is absolutely no way to take it all in upon the first listen. There is quite literally an entire album’s worth of sounds in its near-six-minute runtime. Dark Dazey are not afraid to take risks and delve into the experimental and it has completely paid off. You do not want to miss this one.
