Colin Manson - “Where We Started”
Scotland native and world-traveling singer-songwriter Colin Manson has just released the wonderfully raw and cinematic sounds of “Where We Started.”
Pressing the play button shall fill your ears with the wonderful sounds of elegantly played acoustic guitar, vibrant and full as it sets the course for the tune. The plucking pattern is sensational and precise and immediately makes us want to sell all of our instruments– we could listen to this guitar all day.
An ambient pad swells in the background– it could be a synth or lap steel, but it brings an incredible sense of depth to the production, whatever it may be. Manson’s vocal arrives, inviting listeners not to be so hard on themselves; his voice is authentically honest and we are instantly bewitched by its soothing and unembellished tone.
The song gently crescendos as more elements rise to the surface, including some strings and a bit of bass, gracefully rounding out the arrangement. Midpoint brings some soft percussion and additional layers of vocals, and while the song would work perfectly well as a solo performance, these additional elements create a dreamy atmosphere where we cannot help but leave behind the hubbub of the world.
“Where We Started” will allow you to courageously face your emotions and likely become the soundtrack to your soul searching and/ or moments of quiet introspection. In less than three and a half minutes, Manson has turned us into fans and we truly cannot wait to hear more of his music.
