Cole Scheifele - “You Go Your Way”
Denver-based Cole Scheifele returns to us with “You Go Your Way,” the second single from his forthcoming EP.
“You Go Your Way” is a brief, yet delightfully performed slice of authentic folk music. The way the acoustic guitar enters the ears at the track’s onset is absolutely remarkable, setting an honest and introspective vibe for the rest of the tune. There are so many glorious notes being performed that we are convinced it’s the handiwork of two guitars.
Topnotch guitar work aside, it is, of course, Scheifele’s vocal performance that is the true star of “You Go Your Way.” He has always had a distinctly gritty vehemence in his delivery– one that is, oftentimes, reminiscent of Gregory Alan Isakov, which is undoubtedly one of the reasons we can never seem to pass up the opportunity to feature his music.
At midpoint, Malena Roberts arrives with a divine vocal harmony that adds a great deal of width to the otherwise sparsely recorded arrangement. Some foundational weight is eventually provided by Emma Rose on the bass, anchoring the two-minute tune to the floor as it fades out into the ether.
