Christina Munsey - “take them all”

North Carolina-based singer-songwriter Christina Munsey finds herself on our blog upon the release of her new single, “take them all.”

From the gentle, lo-fi strums of the acoustic guitar, to the ethereal cries from the pedal steel, there is a great deal to love occurring inside of this tune. Both of these elements join forces to set the stage for quite the introspective journey through a composition that is steeping in melancholic reflection.

Of course, the track’s subject matter helps to provide some of this delicious darkness, as it presents an alternate universe where you might peacefully exist if you had only ended a relationship sooner. This fantastic story is delivered eloquently and wonderfully through Munsey’s breathy and emotive vocal performance.

As “take them all” progresses, the arrangement expands to include magnificent layers of vocals (one of our weaknesses), as well as some barebones percussive elements that provide a bit of tension and momentum. Midpoint brings the deep notes from a bass, the subtle keys of a piano, and some subdued strings, lending a dramatic width to the production.

take them all” concludes just as stripped-back as its beginning, letting the listener marvel at the scope of Munsey’s craft. Depending upon where you are in life, this is a song that will either help you heal or completely break you in half. Either way, you really need to press that play button.
