Christian Turner - “Barely Listening”

Christian Turner, a Toronto-based indie rock band, has just dropped their latest track, “Barely Listening.” The song is a throwback to classic indie rock, featuring distorted guitar tones that epitomize the genre. The ‘90s vibe is apparent throughout the song, with the guitar solo being a prime example.

The drums provide a steady rhythm that propels the song forward, while the bass line adds depth to the overall sound. The vocals are cool and impressive, with the singer displaying great dynamic range as they transition effortlessly between verses and a sing-along chorus that hits the ceiling. The addition of a tambourine over the chorus sections adds a nice touch of movement to the track.

The dynamic breaks in the song are well-executed and provide a nice contrast to the energetic and upbeat tempo of the rest of the track. While the vocals and percussion are impressive, for me, it is the guitar work that steals the show… bringing to mind the best of ‘90s indie rock, without being too flashy.

Overall, “Barely Listening” is a fantastic, ready-to-go indie banger that is guaranteed to burn the house down when played live.
