Brian Mathew - “Fall”

The gentle waltzing acoustic tune, “Fall,” has just been released by Denver, Colorado-based Indie/Folk/Rock singer-songwriter Brian Mathew. The song portrays the emotion of pain in a rich, carefree, and relaxing way, describing the emotion’s sensation, the source, and any potential solutions. The song’s words are sincere and poetic and reveal a very talented songwriter.

The song quietly sways; its energy feels melancholy, while gradually growing dynamically, with the tempo becoming something quite powerful. The music feels like there is a defiance over the underlying lyrical content. The vocal is sweet, but also shows great, spirited range– soaring over the chorus sections, but pulling back to a soft delivery.

The performance is very contemplative and is melodiously cushioned by tremolo guitars and organ. The gradual entrance of the electric guitar, as well as other instruments, leading to the brief solo climax is exquisite. This song has a 1990s Britpop indie vibe to it, with hints of Kula Shaker and Noel Gallagher, as well as REO Speedwagon… but it still has its own identity. The song then fades back into its contemplative conclusion, like a dream.
