Brad Wilson - “You and I”

From New Jersey, singer-songwriter Brad Wilson returns to our blog with “You and I,” a bouncy, vintage-tinged work of art.

In case you do not recall, Wilson previously won us over with “It’s Only Blood,” and we are quite pleased to inform you that this new one was brought to life in the same way: live in the studio, captured on analogue gear. “You and I” is conjured into existence via some upbeat finger snaps, quickly joined by some subtle tambourine. An acoustic guitar churns out some energetic chords, while an electric provides some ‘70s-imbued, palm-muted flavor.

A sparse layer of percussion lends a steady pulse to the track, accentuated by some round, deep notes from the bass. But the real prize is Wilson’s vocal performance, as there is truly no denying that this man is doing what he was born to do. His authentic and seemingly effortless delivery enters the ears as though he’s been genetically engineered to instill a vintage vibe into the universe– the layers of backing vocals that float into the arrangement gloriously enhance this notion.

Like the rest of his forthcoming EP, Chasing Ghosts, Wilson recorded “You and I” at LA’s 64 Sound, with Jon Gilbert at the production helm. The result is a sound that we simply cannot get enough of and once you catch an earful of “You and I,” we are confident that you will feel the same.
