Bottlecap Mountain - “Kool”

The crafters of the catchiest pop songs have often claimed to have written them in a matter of minutes. “Kool” is no exception. Austin-based indie rockers Bottlecap Mountain offer us the first single from their 2022 album, Fib Factory. This clever little number was “Inspired by a specific time and place in his childhood… written on the couch by Stewart Gersmann on acoustic guitar in less than an hour.” The lyrics walk the listener down some memories, akin to Social Distortion’s “Time of My Life” in sentiment, but not in sound. “Kool” has much more of a poppy feel than that, not nearly as dirty, nor as depressing, though dirty and depressing are not, by any means, bad things and are generally quite welcome at UpToHear. At a mere 2 minutes and 25 seconds, Gersmann gives the listener a reasonably solid glimpse into his life, and we thought that was “Kool.”
