Bekah Bossard - “Four Walls”

As Bekah Bossard (they/ them) prepares for their tour with Ten Tonnes, they’ve decided to throw us quite the scorching new single in order to hold us over. “Four Walls” is the title track from their upcoming EP of the same name.

Those who are lucky enough to press play on “Four Walls” might draw some instant comparisons to Sonic Youth or Pixies, with the sound of that glorious guitar feedback stretching across an upbeat rhythm. This comparison slowly fades as the rhythm guitar and bass show up and do their thing, chuh-chugging with the beat. Bossard’s magnificent vocals are the next to appear and they behold a tone that is bound to hit the sweet spot for many modern indie pop fans, but they also have a Mazzy Star-ness to them that will resonate with listeners who long for that ‘90s sound. Simply put, “Four Walls” has a sound that will appeal to multiple generations of music lovers.

As you will witness for yourselves, this song has a hook that is quite impressive and will rightfully take up residence in your brain for the rest of the day.

And in case you missed it, Bossard’s debut single, “What You Wanted,” was released last month. While a bit more laid back and not necessarily as upbeat as “Four Walls,” it has more of a dreamy vibe that is complete with wonderfully doubled vocals. Many of the indie pop songs that roll through our submissions are deeply rooted in synth and midi– and though there is certainly a time and place for that, we would like to commend Bossard for the use of more organic instrumentation. As listeners, this makes it very easy to see how perfectly this music will translate to the stage and we hope to catch one of their shows ASAP.
