Bloody Tourist - “Pelican (ft. Bess Atwell)”

Brighton-based indie-electronic duo Bloody Tourist have teamed up with singer-songwriter Bess Atwell to bring us the nostalgic vibes of “Pelican.”

Although Bloody Tourist typically lean into the realm of electronica, “Pelican” is one of the best indie folk tunes we’ve heard all year. The remnants of digital production are fully intact; however, the utilization of acoustic guitar eases the track right into our folksy niche. The mood is intimate and vulnerable and we knew we would love it as soon as we pressed the play button.

Bloody Tourist provide a vocal performance that satisfyingly maintains this emotional foundation, revealing hints of early Bon Iver, Dijon, and Villagers. Amidst the electronic artifacts, additional organic elements gradually populate the arrangement, ultimately providing your ears with a delicate crescendo that is bound to have you adding the tune to all of your favorite playlists.

And while the vocal delivery is a major highlight within “Pelican,” one simply cannot ignore the vintage-tinged, 1970s production of the rhythm that arrives around midpoint– so deliciously analogue that we cannot get enough of it. Finally, Bess Atwell’s voice emerges with the cherry atop this mellifluous sundae, offering a phenomenal juxtaposition to the dual male vocals of Bloody Tourist. We started listening to this song when they first sent it over to us, and we shall never stop listening.
