UK-based Big Society have just released the seasonal “December, forever.” This storytelling track is filled with a vintage warmth and melancholic hopefulness that you will find hard to resist.

December, forever” is a striking indie folk track that was recorded in one live take. This instant classic feels like it could be part of Bob Dylan or Neil Young’s cannon songs. The live nature of the recording lends a lush sense of stripped-back intimacy and magic, which is often missing from other modern releases. The unfussy arrangement is built around two acoustic guitars that lend a satisfying sense of width. One weaves a mellow fingerpicking melody as the other punctuates the groove with warm texture.

The song is quickly joined by a classic sounding bass that deeply pulses underneath, giving “December, forever” a thick, enjoyable foundation. The bass acts as a nice layer of ear candy as it fleshes out the lower octaves of the composition’s melody. Percussion is also added, lending a sense of forward momentum and texture. As the song enters its crescendo, these two elements give a more determined sense of propulsion and intensity, helping to foster the song’s dynamics.

The vocals have a breezy and soulful vibe that fills the song with a satisfying sense of melody and harmonies. The sincere performance conveys introspection and passion, which is very hard to resist. The mix permeates a distinct vintage quality, thanks to the main vocal being panned in the opposite direction of the tender backing vocals.

December, forever” is Big Society’s 2023 charity Christmas release in aid of The Booth Centre, Manchester, a charity helping people who have been affected by homelessness.
