beach novels - “Home Movie”

Returning to the blog with an infectiously energetic offering to the gods of shoegaze, it’s beach novels with their truly delightful new single, “Home Movie.”

The tune first enters your ears with the otherworldly sounds of an oscillating synth, effectively setting an ethereal tempo. Like explosive magic, the full band production begins, complete with lively drums and a bass that tethers down an upbeat foundation. The mood is immediately epic and we decided to feature “Home Movie“ within the first ten seconds of pressing the play button.

Shimmering layers of guitar round out the arrangement, adding a heavenly and uplifting vibe that is reminiscent of Turnover and Launder. A great deal of the shoegaze tunes that roll through our stack of submissions seem to be lacking some weight in the low-end, but we are pleased to tell you that the mix here is quite immaculate, with a kick drum that cannot be ignored.

And speaking of immaculate, wait until you catch an earful of these vocals– the voice of Colin Cameron sweeps across the soundscape, reverberating into a wonderful oblivion, yet maintaining a level of intimacy that pulls you right into the music. “Home Movie” is imbued with a sound that is nostalgic and dreamy in all the right ways and deserves the pole position in all of your favorite playlists.
