Baby FuzZ - “Coyote”

After Baby FuzZ released his 2020 record, Welcome To The Future, he took some time away from music for the sake of his own mental health and became a truck driver. And while this scenario might hit home for what a number of artists went through once COVID hit, you need to understand that the gift he’s brought here today was well worth his brief hiatus.

When we first sat down with his track, “Coyote,” it was like a warm, acoustical hug. This li’l beast was personal, raw as all hell, and almost felt like we had accidentally opened someone’s private journal– partly because of the lyrical content, but mainly because of its emotional performance. Baby FuzZ not only has the splendid gift of craft, but the precision by which he lays it all out on the table is enough to make anyone either hang up their instrument or double down on music lessons. When the slide guitar comes within earshot, it lends that sweet, atmospheric vibe of the 1960s and clears a path for the vocals to shine. It is at this point that you wonder how you ever lived without this song. These sweet, Sufjan Stevens-esque melodies will absolutely floor you with the way that they so effortlessly flow throughout the entirety of the track. There are some folks who might shrug off songs that contain whistles or roll their eyes at the subtle sounds of howling, but both of these additions completely work here and they establish a vulnerability on a level that many songwriters can only ever dream of reaching through their artistry.

Baby FuzZ’s “Coyote” is three minutes and forty-eight seconds of pure, indie-folk gold, but we imagine that it’ll only take you about thirty seconds before you add it to all of your playlists.
