Anni - “Guest List”

Following the edgy “Dinner Party,” the artist Anni, from Venice Beach, is in a far more sombre mood with her new release, “Guest List.” The track's lyrics serve as a tribute to her late mother, as well as other loved ones who have passed too soon. Her haunting vocals provide the track with a deep, sorrowful tone– though it is one that you can see is allowing her to think of fond memories. The song's musical structure is based on the lower-end, warm notes of muted strings that wander around the rhythm, creating a melancholic atmosphere. “Guest List” has a sincerity that is enhanced by the song's extremely lovely simplicity, with great splashes of reverb used fantastically to fill the arrangement’s space, which does everything to enhance the mood. Backing vocals and much of the instrumentation have been pushed to the background, making it seem like something that is there, but out of reach, much like the love we have for those who have left this earthly plane. Anyone would find this music to be well worth their time.

Anni explains: “This song was written by myself and produced by classically trained pianist Kevin Hutch. This is an ode to those lost, and wishing there was a way to visit heaven, to be put on a 'guest list'. After my mother passed last year from cancer, it was hard knowing I'd never be able to talk to her again and I wished there was a 'Guest List' to visit heaven in a way - to catch up with the people we've lost."

It is an amazing tribute, and one that will simultaneously fill you with every emotion known to humankind.
