Anica - “in the dark”

Currently residing in Nashville, singer-songwriter Anica has been making music since the age of ten. And while it is quite possible that you’ve already heard some her tunes on shows like The Fosters or Once Upon A Time, we would like to draw your attention to her latest cinematic single: “in the dark.”

The song opens with the remarkable sounds of some delicately plucked acoustic guitar, softy fading in as it establishes a melancholic mood. It is not long before Anica’s voice sweeps in, immediately grabbing hold of her listeners’ attention and guiding them down a dreamy and introspective path. Her vocal is all the evidence you will need in order to determine that she was born to sing.

Anica maintains a reasonably sparse arrangement here, primarily relying on layers of vocals to saturate the soundscape. And because of this, it is not at all difficult to lose yourself within its ethereal sound. Swells of soft strings emerge, adding a profound width to the production and you will likely find yourself returning to the play button as soon as “in the dark” concludes.

If you happen to be a fan of The Hunger Games, you will be delighted to know that Anica wrote “in the dark” upon watching The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes: “I loved the music in it and felt inspired to write the kind of song that Lucy Gray might have written for Snow in the end.”
