Andie Mechanic - “Cosmic Solitude”
USA-based singer-songwriter Andie Mechanic returns to us with “Cosmic Solitude,” the title track from her brand new EP.
Mechanic begins “Cosmic Solitude” with the vibrant and reflective strums of an acoustic guitar, paving an emotional runway onto which her vocal performance can land. Her breathy delivery predominantly resides in soft falsetto that commands the attention of the listener, allowing the message of love and loss to dig deeply within our chests.
Amidst the vulnerable lines of lyrics, we hear the refrain “No, I don’t need anyone,” which sounds as both a declaration of strength, as well as a mantra we might tell ourselves after we’ve been abandoned. Some soft notes from a piano make an appearance, but, for the most part, the first minute of “Cosmic Solitude” is so profoundly intimate that Mechanic may as well be performing it for you in your living room.
From there, the track elevates for the chorus, incorporating additional vocal layers that allow the track to rise like an almighty wave of sound before descending back into the introspection of the second verse. For a song with such a barebones instrumental, the production is able to fill the entire sonic landscape, thanks to the multilayered vocals and stereo spread. If you’ve been struggling with the emotional toll of heartbreak, let “Cosmic Solitude“ be the soundtrack of your recovery process.
