Alexz Johnson - “Hurt Me”

Funny how a few notes on a piano can open up your heart for a singer to crawl inside and find a corner to curl up in. Alexz Johnson has done just that with her soulful new tune, “Hurt Me.” This one will shuffle into your secret places where the feelings hide. “Give all of your demons to me,” she sings, inviting us to share our pain with her. She says she’s going to take it away, and for the four minutes and twelve seconds of this wonderful tune, I am convinced that she can. It’s got that classic vibe that never really goes out of fashion. You know, a lovely melody sung over a perfect accompaniment with more chord changes than wardrobe changes during fashion week in Paris. It’s stylish, sounds lovely, and is poised to put a smile on all the faces of the world.

Hurt Me” is the first single from Johnson's upcoming album, Seasons, due out this spring. About the record, Johnson adds: “It didn’t take losing two major record deals, and a shelved album by Sony.. it took losing a sister to cancer, and giving birth to two children during a pandemic, to finally believe in my musical abilities and not search for affirmation. I created this album from home and hearth to heal my grief, heal my relationship with music, and regain the confidence to remember why I started doing this in the first place. There is a reason for the seasons of your life."
