New York City-based Zoë Fromer has just released the addictively visceral and evocative indie rock track, “No Questions.”

No Questions” is a wonderfully raw and gritty track that draws on garage rock and post-punk traditions. The track is founded on a solid rhythm section of drums and bass. The drums drive the track forward with a precise and punchy groove. The tight beat satisfyingly grows in complexity as the track reaches its crescendo, imbuing a sense of irresistible urgency. Laying a solid foundation is the steady, thick, and gritty pulse of the bass. The unpretentious bass line plays a striking atmospheric role, almost acting as a hypnotic element in the composition.

Over the top, the guitar is used creatively to soundscape and add exquisitely raw, haunting, and darkly aggressive textures. The distorted, reverbed, and howling tones infuse a sense of moodiness and mystery which is simply sublime. The vocals of Fromer have an almost Karen O-like vibe, which is simply captivating. As the performance explores the lyrics dealing with on-and-off-again relationships, the tones shift from intimate vulnerability to forceful emotional intensity with slick, well-executed ease. The delivery oozes stage presence.

The sublime “No Questions” is taken from Zoë Fromer’s Velvet EP, which is out today:
