London-raised, Netherlands-based singer-songwriter Will Knox has just released the nostalgic sounds of “Growing Pains,” from the EP of the same name.

This track is a stripped-back and introspective view into Knox’s inner child, while he simultaneously gains perspective on becoming a father. “Growing Pains” begins with an earful of expertly finger-plucked acoustic guitar, imbuing the song with a magnificent warmth and a tender vibe.

Knox’s vocal performance is next to arrive, a cozy tenor that sits right in front of you like a dear friend. It reassures you that you’re not alone in this world while revealing some deeply heartfelt lyrics, bound to resonate with anyone who has ever attempted to free themselves from the weight of emotional baggage.

For most of its duration, “Growing Pains” maintains a sparse arrangement, with momentary glimpses of a delightful vocal harmony deployed over the refrain. However, the final third brings an unembellished string arrangement that echos the vocal melody, providing the listener with a mellifluous embrace and reassurance that everything is going to be okay.

About the track, Knox offers: “I was doing 'inner child healing' in therapy at the time of writing, and my therapist asked me if there was anything I would like to say to my inner child. The words "I don't want to let you down" came out and I burst into tears. This became the first lyric of what would eventually become ‘Growing Pains’. While saying these words I felt like I was talking to my new-born son as much as I was talking to my younger self.”

If you would like a bit of folksy comfort and encouragement as you face the inevitable conundrum of adulthood, we earnestly recommend filling your ears with “Growing Pains,” now available everywhere.
