LB Beistad - “Why Don’t We Go West”

Born and raised in East Tennessee, LB Beistad arrives on the blog with your new favorite indie pop song, “Why Don’t We Go West.”

We really want you to close your eyes for this one… Imagine, if you will, all the grit of Stevie Nicks, combined with the soft and gentle delivery of Hope Sandoval– this will somewhat prepare you for Beistad’s heavenly vocal performance. Her voice has a dreamy and creamy texture that is bound to make you simultaneously nostalgic for every decade of music that has ever existed.

And if you have ever read our blog, you’ll know that we are constantly on the lookout for music that does exactly what “Why Don’t We Go West” does. It is reminiscent of that old, thick analogue sound, but also fits nicely within the music of today. The arrangement is layered with some vibey guitar and a rhythm section that has been firmly glued together with pro-level production magic.

In just over four minutes, this track delightfully showcases Beistad’s voice, most notably when she glides up into her falsetto. The groove is gentle enough to fit into your chill, summertime soundtrack and one cannot help but be tempted to embark upon the roadtrip suggested in the song’s title. The very least you could do is immediately press play.

To ensure that the sweet sound of “Why Don’t We Go West” is not a fluke, we did what we do and we dove a bit deeper. And if more of that dream pop vibe is what you crave, be sure to check out “Honey’s Gone Bad,” Beistad’s release from April of this year. It starts off a bit more stripped-back, which is smack-dab in the middle of our wheelhouse. But once the track gets rolling, we assure you that the arrangement incorporates all the sounds you admire from her latest, plus some distorted guitar on the hook.
