Whiskerman - “My Motor”

The newest song from Whiskerman, entitled “My Motor,” features Kelly McFarling on background vocals and it is a wonderful slice of late 1960s nostalgia. The band is from Oakland, California, and pays respectful homage to earlier West Coast traditions and sounds and if you’re a fan of that, you will love these guys. The song nearly sounds as though it is the lovechild of Spirit and Buffalo Springfield.

Although there is a relaxed, acoustic atmosphere that acts as a foundation, the harder rock elements receive all the proper attention. The lead vocal has a fantastic range and a lovely, soulful sound. The tune is padded by vintage organ tones, and the bass lays down some gorgeous licks. McFarling’s background vocals, which give the song a distinctly gospel-like atmosphere, are one of the most stirring and lovely components– in my opinion, they expertly add a new dimension to the music, which practically feels like genius. Add all of that to the double-decker guitar solo at the end and this track is a real winner.

“My Motor” is a bonus tack on Whiskerman’s upcoming rerelease of their 2016 album, Champions. The record is scheduled to be released January 27.
