Orions Belte - “When You’re Gone I’ll Be Gone” (ft. Louien)

From Norway, Orions Belte have just released the gorgeous post-rock track “When You’re Gone I’ll Be Gone (feat. Louien). The song is beautifully melancholic with its breezy vocals and lush textures.

When You’re Gone I’ll Be Gone begins gorgeously stripped-back, conjuring up an ambiance that makes me think of Talk Talk‘s Spirit of Eden album. A reflective intro breaks to clean electric guitar, coated in reverb. The tones effortlessly create a dreamy and mellow atmosphere as they linger and melt into the arrangement. A gentle drum groove pushes the song forward, while a simple, yet stunningly tasteful bass tone provides a strong foundation and lends warmth.

Coming back to Talk Talk‘s Spirit of Eden, the track similarly pays careful attention to textures, tones, and dynamics. Acoustic guitar supports in key areas to enhance the groove, whilst airy noises sweep into gaps left into the arrangement, heightening a sense of dreamy contemplation. As the song develops, texture and dynamics are used to create a confident contrast. Driving, gritty, and moody guitar tones cut through the breezy soundscape. These conflicting elements create a compelling tension that eventually intensifies to a crescendo of raw sound and white noise at the end.

Louien‘s vocal is beyond impressive, floating gently above the track. Her voice is soft and airy, with breathy undertones that complement the delicate guitar work. The addition of reverb-drenched backing vocals enhances the song’s ethereal character, providing a great deal of depth. The whole performance delivers a compelling narrative of love and melancholy.

Orions Belte and Louien paint a gorgeous soundscape with “When You’re Gone I’ll Be Gone.” Full of dreamy, ethereal tones and contrasting gritty guitar work, this track will effortlessly whisk you away. The song is taken from Orions Belte’s new album, Women, which is due to be released on October 6th.
